Michael Martin

Music arranger

Michael Martin, founder of PlayWriteMusic, became the youngest member of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Boston Pops as Third/Utility trumpet in July 2010, at the age of 24. Along with playing for the symphony, he is also the Brass Arranger for the seven-time DCI World Champion Cavaliers Drum & Bugle Corps of Rosemont, Illinois, Spirit of Atlanta Drum and Bugle Corps, and numerous award-winning high school marching programs.

Michael attended Northwestern University where he received both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Trumpet Performance studying with Barbara Butler and Charles Geyer. Prior to joining the Boston Symphony, Michael performed with a diverse array of professional orchestras, ensembles and performing artists including the Civic Orchestra of Chicago; the Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, and Chicago symphonies; the Axiom Brass; the Pacifica Quartet; “eighth blackbird”; and Sufjan Stevens.


Freddy Martin

Master teacher

Freddy Martin was born and raised in Cobb County, Georgia. He attended Jacksonville State University in Alabama where he received the Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education. Mr. Martin has also done post-graduate work at Georgia State University in Atlanta. In May 2014, Mr. Martin was granted an honorary doctorate in music education from the Vandercook College of Music in Chicago for his many years in education and for his quality of service to the music education profession.

Mr. Martin has taught at South Cobb High School in Cobb County Georgia, with the famed “Spirit of Atlanta” Drum Corps, and for Buford City Schools in Atlanta. Mr. Martin recently retired as band director at the Westminster Schools. He is now caption coordinator for brass with the Cavaliers Drum Corps from Rosemont, Illinois. He is the founding director of the “Spirit of Atlanta” Drum and Bugle Corps and continues to serve the Corps today as Director Emeritus. Mr. Martin is a member of the Drum Corps International Hall of Fame. This is his 52nd year of teaching.

Kevin LeBoeuf

Music arranger

Kevin LeBoeuf is the brass caption manager for The Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps of Canton, Ohio. Prior to his appointment at “Bloo”, Kevin served as the brass caption manager for The Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps, based in Rosemont, Illinois, from 2018-2022 and served on the Carolina Crown brass staff from 2015-2017.

Kevin holds an undergraduate degree from Rutgers University, and a graduate degree in wind-band conducting, under the instruction of Dr. Travis Cross at the University of California, Los Angeles.

He serves as the brass caption head for the Aimachi marching band in Nagoya, Japan and has presented clinics throughout The US, Japan, and Thailand.
Outside of Drum Corps, LeBoeuf balances a career split between New York, Los Angeles, and Japan, as a composer, arranger, sound system designer, and general contractor.


Will Pitts

Music arranger

William Pitts is active as a music designer, adjudicator, and instructor for award-winning high school band programs throughout the country. Pitts was the Brass Arranger for the Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps of Rockford, Illinois, after serving as a conductor here for three years (2005, 2007-2008). His concert compositions and arrangements have been commissioned and performed across the world. He has also served as a production consultant and talent for Tom Blair, Inc., Drum Corps International, and MTV. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Atlanta Youth Wind Symphony Foundation.

As a music educator, Pitts has served on the faculties of Duncanville High School in Duncanville, Texas, and Pace Academy in Atlanta, Georgia. He currently serves on the faculty of the Westminster Schools in Atlanta, specializing in instrumental music, music theory, and media studies. Pitts also serves as a Senior Post Production Manager for the Moguls and Media and Forever Dog Podcast Network.


Dylan Toombs

Music arranger

Dylan Toombs is the assistant brass caption manager for The Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps of Canton, Ohio. Prior to joining The Bluecoats, Dylan held the same position at The Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps from 2020-2023. He is a teacher, consultant, clinician, and arranger in the Dallas Fort-Worth metroplex, where he maintains a studio of over sixty successful students. He earned a Music Performance degree from the University of North Texas in Music Performance, where he was honored to study with the world-renowned Dr. Brian Bowman.

Dylan is a visual specialist, music consultant, and design advisor for the Marcus High School Marching Band in Flower Mound, TX. During his time at Marcus, the band has been a consistent UIL State Championship Finalist as well as BOA Grand National Finalist. Toombs co-founded and serves as the music arranger for Collective Marching Designs, a team that focuses on bringing fresh and achievable productions to groups of all budgets, levels, and sizes.


Matt Owen

Music arranger

Matthew “Gameboy” Owen is a globally touring electro-tubist, Army Musician, pianist, arranger, and composer and leading proponent for the marriage of brass and electronics residing in Nashville, Tenn. Performing over 200 shows a year as a Jupiter Artist across nine countries, he tours regularly with Eclectic Tuba and Opposite Box. In 2015, he founded Electrobrass Conference, which holds seminars geared toward the advancement of American brass music through technology.

Matt studied Music Education at Jacksonville State University and graduated from the Armed Forces School of Music in Little Creek, VA. He is currently a member of the 129th Army Band stationed in Nashville, TN. He is the Music Designer/Arranger for the WGI group Armada Winds and resident composer for Ogden High School Band.

Owen has composed over 50 works for tuba and electronics, and has launched three electronic composition campaigns through Electrobrass in an attempt to encourage more composers to join in the movement and help create a large catalogue of music for the medium. He continues to devote as much time to education as possible.


Drew Dickey

Music arranger

Christopher Drew Dickey currently serves as Assistant Instructor at The University of Texas at Austin, where he is pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts Degree in Wind Conducting. At UT, he assists with all facets of the university band program, including athletic bands, concert ensembles, and teaching undergraduate courses. In addition to this appointment, Mr. Dickey serves as the brass caption coordinator with the Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps of Canton, Ohio, before which he served in the same capacity at The Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps from Rosemont, Illinois.

Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Dickey held positions at The South Carolina School of the Arts at Anderson University, the Anderson School District 5 District Office, and Southwood Academy of the Arts. He also served as a Graduate Conducting Associate with the Louisiana State University Department of Bands and has spent many years as an educator and administrator in the South Carolina public schools.

Mr. Dickey holds the degrees of Master of Music in Music Education from the Ithaca College School of Music, Master of Music in Wind Conducting from Louisiana State University, and Bachelor of Music in Music Education from the University of South Carolina. 


Patrick Forrester

Visual designer

Patrick Forrester is a sought after designer, choreographer, and clinician for marching bands, winter guards and indoor percussion ensembles throughout the country. After marching with Carolina Crown from 2010 to 2013, Patrick joined the visual staff at Crown where he served as a member of the teaching faculty from 2014-2018. 

Patrick holds a Bachelors of Music Education from Louisiana State University. After graduating from LSU, Patrick moved back to Georgia where he taught Middle and High School Band in the Savannah area.

Currently, Patrick is pursuing his Masters in Wind Conducting at Louisiana State University where he serves as a Graduate Teaching Assistant with the LSU Band Department. Patrick currently lives in Baton Rouge, LA with his beautiful wife, Angelle and their brown dog, Caffrey.


Brad Klemmensen

Visual designer

Brad Klemmensen is a freelance drill writer, visual instructor, and adjudicator from Avon, IN. He currently serves as the Visual Caption Coordinator for the Cavaliers Drum & Bugle Corps.

In 2021, he taught several esteemed groups including the Avon High School Marching Black and Gold and The Franklin Band from Franklin, TN. His drill has been featured in Indiana Class A State Finals with the Floyd Central High School band from Floyd Knobs, IN. Off the field, he holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance from Purdue University.


Justin Cohen

Visual technician

Justin Cohen marched with the Bluecoats Drum & Bugle Corps from 2015 - 2018, winning the DCI World Championship in 2016 and serving as horn sergeant. After his performance career, Justin began working in music studios including SuperSound Studios in Atlanta, GA, where he worked with artists like T.I., Iggy Azalea, and B.o.B. He later discovered a passion in digital production and film.

Justin is a graduate of Kennesaw State University in Media & Entertainment, focusing directly on video editing, animation, and content creation. He currently serves as a Digital Media Specialist and Lead Video Editor for Ceramic Technics, a tile, flooring, and LVT company based in Atlanta, GA. He continues to work in music, designing soundtracks for performance groups, and touring as a visual instructor with the Cavaliers Drum & Bugle Corps during the summer.
